Then you’ll need to fill up the water tank to the appropriate level, as well as adding the recommended cleaning detergent to the solution tank. For small, tight spaces, you should look out for a model with a crevice tool – this lets you easily reach every nook and cranny. If you’re going to be cleaning on multiple levels, you’ll want a relatively lightweight unit, as well as keeping an eye out for handy extras like automatic detergent mixing, water heaters, and upholstery tools.

Like all carpet cleaners, a Vax carpet cleaner works by mixing detergent and warm water, releasing solution while the spinning scrub brushes remove ground-in dirt and stains. Typically, you’ll set the model to its ‘wash’ function, squeezing a trigger while pushing the cleaner forward over your surfaces. Then, you’ll release the trigger, pulling the model backwards over the area you just cleaned to remove dirt. Once you’re satisfied, you can then switch the function to ‘rinse’, repeating the same motions using only water to get rid of any excess solution and moisture.
